Spotlight on Mario Juric
July 04, 2017
Welcome to ‘Spotlight on’, our round of quick-fire Q&A where we get to meet the people who make CloudSense tick.
It’s a fast, (relatively) fun way to learn a little bit more about CloudSense’s people – from what makes them want to come to work every day – to the meal they’d pick before they met their maker on death row.
Today we have a glimpse into the world of our Head of Developers’ Practice and reluctant Croatian Football League fanatic, Mario Juric.
Name, Position & CloudSense Office:
Mario Juric, Head of Developers’ Practice, Zagreb, Croatia.
What do you do at CloudSense on a day to day basis?
My day is basically divided between a consultant job working with our customers and internal Head of Practice tasks which are mostly focused around making all our developers lives easier and nicer.
How long have you worked here?
For almost three years already. Time flies when you’re having fun.
What was your background before joining?
I started as a developer in a few small companies before switching to Business Intelligence positions in two of Croatia’s largest companies. I think it was a good combination, it let me see both sides of the story. I learned how simple things can be complicated in big companies, but I also got to know why it has to be like that.
What’s your favorite thing about the CloudSense office?
Free food and strong teamwork.
When was your best day at CloudSense and why?
I am still waiting for that day to come. It’s a roller coaster ride with ups and downs, but in general there are a lot of great days – and many more to come!
Describe a ‘CloudSense person’ in 3 words…
What makes you want to come to work every day?
Kids. They wake up pretty early…
If you could switch jobs with anyone else at CloudSense, whose job would you have?
With Adam, Luka or any of my other team members because they have great team leader and Head of Practice!
Where do you see CloudSense in 5 years’ time?
With at least 5 offices in Croatia.
Where’s your hometown?
Born in Bosnia, raised in Turopolje region of Croatia – a terrible combination.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
It is still being built – my family house.
What’s your favorite book
I just love Terry Pratchett Discworld books. “Guards! Guards!” should be included in the school curriculum.
And your favourite film?
I don’t know. Since I’ve had kids my taste has unwillingly changed towards animated movies. I’m still trying to figure out how this happened.
Before that I think I would say – Fargo.
What would be your desert island DVD box set?
Will Ferrell filmography and Futurama complete series.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
The Croatian Football League. It’s like having an old dog that does not know any tricks and looks quite ugly – but you still love it since it is yours!
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
What would your death row meal be?
My wife’s spaghetti bolognese.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
That would be a huge list… but names included would be:
Elon Musk – to check what he has planned for the future
Ray Kurzwei – to ask whether we are on track to reach the point of singularity
And, Drazen Petrovic – to find out the source of his work ethic.
Who would play you in the film of your life?
In my early years – Jon Heder from Napoleon Dynamite. That hair.
Later, I wouldn’t settle for less than Gerard Butler or Russell Crowe.
If you were guaranteed to be successful in a different profession, what would you do?
Football Manager. Multiple years of playing Football Manager on my computer are proving that I am the real ‘Special One’.
